Taiwan reports 28,489 local COVID cases, 91 deaths

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 28,489 local COVID cases on Monday (June 27), a 28% decrease from the previous day.

CECC Spokesperson Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥) also confirmed 91 imported cases, bringing the country's total case count to 3,641,921. The 91 deaths reported brought the country's total COVID death toll to 6,345.

Local cases

The local cases include 13,450 males, 15,022 females, and 17 cases still under investigation, ranging in age from under 5 to their 90s. Taichung City reported the most cases with 4,008, followed by 3,888 in Kaohsiung City, 3,679 in New Taipei City, 2,774 in Taoyuan City, 2,503 in Tainan City, 2,026 in Changhua County, 2,025 in Taipei City, 1,174 in Pingtung County, 879 in Yunlin County, 798 in Miaoli County, 749 in Hsinchu County, 603 in Hsinchu City, 602 in Chiayi County, 590 in Nantou County, 485 in Yilan County, 453 in Hualien County, 372 in Keelung City, 349 in Chiayi City, 276 in Taitung County, 163 in Penghu County, 76 in Kinmen County, and 17 in Lienchiang County.

COVID deaths

The 91 deaths announced on Monday include 57 males and 34 females ranging in age from their 30s to their 90s. All of these individuals were classified as severe cases, 86 had a history of chronic disease, and 59 had not received their third dose of a COVID vaccine. Their dates of diagnosis ranged from May 11 to June 24 and dates of death from May 11 to June 24.

Imported cases

The 91 imported cases include 54 males and 37 females ranging in age from under 5 to their 70s. Between June 15-26, four arrived from the U.S. and one each from South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, and Singapore. The countries of origin of 83 other cases are still being investigated.

COVID case statistics

Since the pandemic began, Taiwan has carried out 13,236,663 COVID tests, with 9,591,583 coming back negative. Of the 3,641,921 confirmed cases, 14,379 were imported, 3,627,488 were local, 36 came from the Navy's "Goodwill Fleet," three from a cargo pilot cluster, one is unresolved, and 14 are under investigation.

Up until now, 6,345 individuals have succumbed to the disease. Of the 6,330 deaths from local infections, 1,638 were in New Taipei City; 876 in Taipei City; 561 in Taichung City; 527 in Taoyuan City; 522 in Kaohsiung City; 382 in Tainan City; 306 in Changhua County; 237 in Pingtung County; 166 in Keelung City; 154 in Nantou County; 149 in Yunlin County; 139 in Yilan County; 119 in Miaoli County; 103 in Hualien County; 101 each in Hsinchu County and Chiayi County; 88 in Chiayi City; 85 in Taitung County; 58 in Hsinchu City, 10 in Kinmen County, and eight in Penghu County. The 15 other deaths were imported cases.
