Japan's trade surplus rose 51.8 pct on year in April

Japan's trade surplus with the rest of the world rose 51.8 percent in April, the Ministry of Finance said Thursday, suggesting exports may keep supporting the country's five-year expansion.
The unadjusted surplus rose to 926.68 billion yen (US$7.62 billion; euro5.65 billion) from a year earlier.
The increase beat the 47.4 percent forecast by economists surveyed by Dow Jones newswires.
Japan's trade surplus with the United States decreased 18.6 percent to 654.17 billion yen (US$5.38 billion; euro3.99 billion) in April from a year earlier, the ministry said.
Japan posted a deficit in its trade with China of 332.29 billion yen (US$2.73 billion; euro2.02 billion), down 9.8 percent on year. The country's trade surplus with Asia rose 42.4 percent to 665.96 billion yen (US$5.48 billion; euro4.06 billion).
