Taiwan reports 60,042 local COVID cases, 109 deaths

10,668 COVID cases reported in New Taipei, 8,333 in Kaohsiung, and 7,540 in Taipei

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 60,042 local COVID cases on Monday (May 30), a 21% decrease from the previous day.

CECC head Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) also confirmed 61 imported cases, bringing the country's total case count to 1,952,355. The 109 deaths brought the country's total COVID death toll to 2,165.

Local cases

The local cases include 28,755 males, 31,273 females, and 14 cases still under investigation, ranging in age from under 5 to their 90s. New Taipei City reported the most cases with 10,668, followed by 8,333 in Kaohsiung City, 7,540 in Taichung City, 6,493 in Taoyuan City, 5,565 in Taipei City, 4,278 in Tainan City, 3,159 in Changhua County, 2,127 in Pingtung County, 1,894 in Hsinchu County, 1,664 in Miaoli County, 1,246 in Yunlin County, 1,126 in Hsinchu City, 1,026 in Keelung City, 1,003 in Yilan County, 938 in Hualien County, 901 in Nantou County, 779 in Chiayi County, 600 in Taitung County, 432 in Chiayi City, 132 in Kinmen County, 120 in Penghu County, and 18 in Lienchiang County.

COVID deaths

The 109 deaths announced on Monday include 70 men and 39 women ranging in age from their 40s to their 90s. All of these patients were classified as severe cases, 106 had a history of chronic disease, and 43 were not vaccinated. Their dates of diagnosis ranged from May 5-27 and dates of death from May 10-27.

Imported cases

The 61 imported cases include 28 males and 33 females ranging in age from under 5 to their 50s. They arrived between May 28-29, and their countries of origin are still being investigated.

COVID case statistics

Since the pandemic began, Taiwan has carried out 11,058,044 COVID tests, with 9,109,556 coming back negative. Of the 1,952,355 confirmed cases, 12,942 were imported, 1,939,359 were local, 36 came from the Navy's "Goodwill Fleet," three from a cargo pilot cluster, one is unresolved, and 14 are under investigation.

Up until now, 2,165 individuals have succumbed to the disease. Of the 2,150 deaths from local infections, 905 were in New Taipei City; 550 in Taipei City; 102 in Keelung City; 96 in Taichung City; 76 in Kaohsiung City; 71 in Taoyuan City; 53 in Changhua County; 50 in Tainan City; 46 Yilan County; 41 in Hualien County; 36 in Pingtung County; 28 in Yunlin County; 25 Taitung County; 20 in Hsinchu County; 12 each in Chiayi City, Nantou County, and Chiayi County; nine in Miaoli County; and three each in Kinmen County and Hsinchu City. The 15 other deaths were imported cases.
