Malaysia health officers to probe confusion over premature born baby

Malaysian health officials said Monday they will investigate the confusion over a prematurely born baby, who was believed to be still alive when doctors declared her dead but died later.
Hasnah Ismail, health department director in northern Kedah state, said the baby girl was initially pronounced dead by a government doctor early Sunday after physicians failed to detect a heartbeat two hours after her birth.
Her parents took her back for burial but rushed her back to the hospital after claiming the 330-gram (11.6 ounces) baby was moving, Hasnah said.
The baby was put into an incubator. Doctors said she seemed to be "gasping" slightly, but no heartbeat was detected and she was confirmed dead Sunday night, Hasnah told The Associated Press.
"We will investigate the case," she said.
