Japan's Shadow Gate wins Singapore Airlines Cup

Japanese newcomer Shadow Gate won the 3 million Singapore dollar (US$1.96 million; euro1.45 million) Singapore Airlines International Cup Sunday.
Jockey Katsuharu Tanaka kept the five-year-old Shadow Gate in the pack from the start, surging forward in the middle of the track to take the lead turning into the final stretch of the Group One 2,000-meter (6,600-foot) race.
Shadow Gate is a Group 3 winner who has performed well in his native country. This year, he has won two races back-to-back.
"I'm very glad about the win today," said Shadow Gate's trainer, Yukihiro Kato. "I've been staying here one week and I know the ground situation and felt confident about it."
Defending champion Cosmo Bulk of Japan came in second, with jockey Fuyuki Igarashi on the six-year-old's saddle.
French horse Doctor Dino, trained by Richard Gibson, was third while Singapore's Setembro Chove, a Brazilian-bred horse, came in fourth.
