Spanish-language network Univision announces new programs for 2008

Spanish-language TV network Univision on Wednesday announced 30 new programs for 2008, including a Spanish version of "Desperate Housewives" and a miniseries inspired by Jennifer Lopez's new album.
Also among its top offerings will be: "RBD: La Familia," a miniseries on the successful Mexican pop group that will provide fans with a look into the band members' daily lives; the reality show "Los 5 Magnificos," or "The 5 Magnificent Ones," about life in a circus; the soap operas "Pasion," a story of love and adventure during the age of pirates, and "Muchachitas Como Tu," or "Little Girls Like You," which will explore themes related to teenagers.
In addition to "Amas de Casa Desesperadas," or "Desperate Housewives," the network will also feature the miniseries "Como Ama una Mujer," or "How a Woman Loves," based on Lopez's Spanish-language album of the same title.
The "rich experience (of recording her first album in Spanish) was that it took to me to writing this story," Lopez said.
Meanwhile, Spanish-language network Telemundo presented five new melodramas on Tuesday, including "El Otro Lado del Amor," or "The Other Side of Love," a modern version of the story of Romeo and Juliet, and "Las Brujas de South Beach," or "The Witches of South Beach," about four women who were sisters in another life.
Telemundo will also debut "La Traicion," or "The Betrayal"; "Dona Barbara"; and "Idolos de Juventud," or "Youth Idols."
