Manaudou's coach claims swimmer left because she didn't want to work hard

Manaudou's coach claims swimmer left because she didn't want to work hard

The former coach of Olympic and world champion Laure Manaudou believes the swimmer moved to Italy to train less.
"She is leaving because she wants to work less, that's all," Philippe Lucas said Thursday. "She is escaping work, she told me."
Manaudou announced Wednesday she is splitting from Lucas and relocating to Turin in northern Italy.
The Frenchwoman won 400-meter freestyle gold at the 2004 Olympics, and also picked up silver and bronze medals in Athens.
At this year's world championships in Melbourne, Australia, Manaudou won gold in the 200 and 400 freestyles, in addition to three other medals.
Lucas claims Manaudou was not training hard enough recently.
"I did not want to coach her any more given her behavior, and she did not want to train with me at all," he said. "I will never say anything bad about this swimmer. She is a great swimmer, a great champion."
