Arroyo leads Labor Day in synergy with nation's social partners

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo led the workers' celebration of Labor Day at the Folk Arts Theater on May 1.
Labor and Employment Secretary Arturo D. Brion said the Labor Day celebration, the 105th in the Philippines' history, affirms in resounding terms the Filipino human resources as the country's biggest advantage in shoring up our local and global competitiveness, productivity, and status before the community of nations.
"From this vantage point, this year's Labor Day (fittingly celebrated and honored) the country's 36 million local workforce, as well as emerging labor force," he said.
The event also honored overseas Filipino workers who are toiling abroad to secure a good future for their families. The observance of this year's Labor Day was built around the theme, "Social Partnership for Productivity, Equity and Competitiveness," and a corresponding slogan, "Galing, Husay at Talino, Handog ng Manggagawang Pilipino!"
