Montoya to try stock car racing on dirt

Stock-car racing is still new to Colombian rookie Juan Pablo Montoya. But dirt-track racing is something he hadn't considered until Tony Stewart came up with an invitation.
Montoya will join Stewart and a large group of NACAR drivers on June 6 on the dirt at Eldora Speedway in a charity race for the Victory Junction Gang Camp in North Carolina and the Tony Stewart Foundation.
Also expected are Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne, Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth, Mark Martin, Denny Hamlin, Bobby Labonte, Ryan Newman, Bill Elliott, Clint Bowyer, Dave Blaney, Kyle Petty, Aric Almirola, Kyle Busch, Ron Capps, Red Farmer, Elliott Sadler, Ken Schrader, Kenny Wallace, Mike Wallace, J.J. Yeley and Ray Evernham.
All will drive 2,300-pound (1,050-kilogram) dirt late-model stock cars.
"This is going to be a fun but unbelievably competitive race," said Stewart, two-time NASCAR champion and owner of the track. "For Juan, it will be a brand new experience, but he's a great race driver and he'll catch on fast.
"Harvick tore up a car the first year he did it. It cost me $10,000 to replace that thing for the team. But, now, he's one of the fastest guys out there."
