Ecuadorean federation lifts ban on Delgado

The Ecuadorean Football Association lifted a yearlong ban on forward Augustin Delgado on Wednesday, ending his punishment five months after he was sanctioned for helping instigate an on-field brawl.
The Liga de Quito forward, whose transfer to the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer last month reportedly was scuttled by the ban, was suspended in December along with teammate and midfielder Roberto Palacios for a brawl at the end of a 1-1 draw against Barcelona.
"I want to express that these five months have been very difficult for me," Delgado said after the ruling. "It was my error, one that I am sorry to have made."
The striker, who scored two goals for Ecuador in last year's World Cup, urged children to use "reason and avoid any violent act, especially in sports" if they are ever harassed or offended on the field.
Palacios can resume playing starting June 19.
