Ascoli draws with Catania 3-3 to keep alive hopes of staying in Serie A

Ascoli drew 3-3 with Catania on Wednesday to keep alive its hopes of staying in the Serie A next season.
Viktor Boudianski, Giampietro Perrulli and Paolo Zanetti gave Ascoli a 3-1 lead by the 69th minute, but Fabio Caserta then scored off a deflected shot. Gionatha Spinesi then leveled the match with a 76th-minute penalty.
Giuseppe Mascara got Catania's first goal in the 21st _ four minutes after teammate Juan Manuel Vargas hit the crossbar at Chievo Verona's Bentegodi stadium.
Boudianski then scored in the 36th, Perrulli added another in the 49th and Zanetti scored the third in the 52nd.
Ascoli is in last place in the league with 21 points and can only avoid relegation if it wins its final four games with a better goal difference than 17th-place Torino, which must lose its remaining games. Torino has 33 points _ four fewer than Catania.
The postponed 33rd-round match was played on a neutral ground because Catania's Angelo Massimino stadium does not meet anti-violence measures, imposed after the killing of a policeman in rioting outside the arena in February.
