Wales calls up five rookies for Euro 2008 qualifier against Czechs

Wales called up five rookies Wednesday in a 25-man squad for a European Championship qualifying match against the Czech Republic and a friendly against New Zealand.
The new players are strikers Freddy Eastwood and Daniel Nardiello, goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey and defenders Chris Gunter and Neal Eardley.
The Wales squad is at virtually full strength, with defender Danny Gabbidon and striker Robert Earnshaw returning from groin injuries and only defender Mark Delaney out with a knee injury. Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs is also the squad and expected to be captain.
Eastwood, who plays for League Championship club Southend, was called up because his grandfather was born in Wales.
"The call up is brilliant news for me and obviously I'm delighted to get the chance to play for my country," Eastwood said. "The better the players around me the better I'll play. It is going to be a great experience."
Nardiello is following in the footsteps of his father Donato, who made two appearances for Wales in 1978. He was also eligible to play for England.
"Maybe his father has had a word with him," Wales coach John Toshack said. "He did once say he did not want to play for Wales, but it has been almost a year now since he changed his mind, but injury robbed him of a chance last season."
Wales plays New Zealand in a friendly in Wrexham on May 26, before hosting the Czech Republic at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on June 2.
Wales is fifth in Group D with six points. Germany, the Czech Republic and Ireland all have 13 points, followed by Slovakia with nine.
