Electronic marketplace to generate US$100 million for Taiwan manufacturers in 2007, says trade promoter

Taiwan's electronic procurement site (ePS) -- an online marketplace targeting large-scale buyers of Taiwan products -- is expected to generate around US$100 million-worth of revenues for domestic manufacturers this year, the country's top trade promoter said on Wednesday.
"Based on the large-scale procurement volume placed by existing ePS users, it is estimated that Taitra's (Taiwan External Trade Development Council) ePS sourcing assistance contributed about US$30 million to Taiwan's export revenues last year, and is expected to generate around US$100 million for this year," Taitra said.
"ePS has already proven to be a highly effective and valued sourcing platform adopted by repeat users since 1995, and is now poised to cover a wide range of competitive Taiwan industries, including machinery, consumer electronics and components, computers and peripherals, automobile and bicycle parts/accessories, sporting goods, hand tools and metal hardware, textiles and garments, and agricultural produce and processed foods."
According to Taitra, ePS aims to enhance the sourcing experience of importers of Taiwan products. ePS is designed exclusively for worldwide large-scale buyers with an annual import volume that exceeds US$10 million. This service is also offered to those importers for free.
"ePS is the brainchild of Taitra's B2B (business-to-business) national ePortal management team, which is also the group behind Taiwantrade, the national trade portal of Taiwan that features an extensive database of nearly 90,000 Taiwan-based corporations and their online catalogs covering 43 industries," said the trade promoter.
Taiwantrade is an open online database that provides assistance to global traders doing business with Taiwan manufacturers, and the customized ePS program is especially designed to provide qualified buyers with an exclusive Chinese-language e-procurement site created by a dedicated account manager, Taitra said. The said account manager could also assist importers identify qualified Taiwanese suppliers who could meet their requirements, it added.
Taitra's ePS has been well-received by major buying companies.
"It was really well organized and the suppliers were already focused on our next business procurement," said Delphi Product & Service Solutions of South America, an international buyer.
Bosch (China) Investment Limited agreed.
"Without your support we (would not have had met) so many suppliers in Taipei," said Bosch.
According to Taitra, Taiwantrade will be committing itself to 50 ePS sourcing projects this year.
During the first four months of 2007, 11 ePS projects had already been accomplished and another 12 are still in the pipeline.
"(In addition to) existing repeat clients such as globally recognized companies Delphi and Bosch, ePS has also (provided assistance) to large local trade leaders such as the Tsyn Group in Belarus, Boise Cascade in North America, Al Fahidi Stationery from Dubai, (and) CETASA from Spain," said Taitra.
