Alliance Boots says it earned 387 million pounds in 2006

Alliance Boots PLC, the pharmacy group being bought by its deputy chairman and a private equity firm, said Wednesday that it earned 387 million pounds (US$774.4 million; euro567.9 million) in its fiscal year.
Revenue for the year through March 31 totaled 11.5 billion pounds (US$23 billion; euro16.9 billion), the company said in a statement. Alliance Boots was formed last year by the merger of Boots Group PLC and Alliance Unichem PLC, and so could not give net figures for the year ago period.
"We have delivered a strong financial performance while executing one of the biggest mergers undertaken in the U.K.," said Chief Executive Richard Baker.
A bidding war for Alliance Boots ended last week with the company's deputy chairman Stefano Pessina and private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. winning with a sweetened 11 billion pound (euro16.2 billion; US$22 billion) offer that pushed a rival private equity group out of the running.
Pessina and KKR were forced to raise their offer three times to secure their bid for Alliance Boots, which has around 3,000 Boots drugstores in Britain, seven other European countries and Thailand.
Around 2,600 of the stores are in Britain, and its status as a household name prompted some debate about the merits of ownership by private equity for major British companies.
Alliance Boots shares were little changed at 1,121.11 pence (US$22.43; euro16.45) on the London Stock Exchange.
