Brazil's Internacional releases hero of world club championship final

Internacional released midfielder Adriano Gabiru on Tuesday, more than four months after he scored the winning goal against FC Barcelona for the Club World Cup.
Internacional fans acclaimed Gabiru as one of the team's greatest heroes, but club directors and recently signed coach Gallo decided to drop him.
Gabiru was under pressure as the struggling team was eliminated from the Rio Grande do Sul Brazilian state championship and from the first stage of the Copa Libertadores.
Four others were released, including Peruvian defender Martin Hidalgo, who was on a loan from Paraguay's Libertad.
Gallo, a former defensive midfielder, replaced Abel Braga, who resigned last week to accept an offer from an undisclosed European club.
Gabiru came off the bench to score the only goal in the world club championship final against Barcelona in Japan in December.
Internacional, a three-time Brazilian champion, will open this year's Brazilian league against Botafogo on May 13. It was runner-up to Sao Paulo in last year.
