Rolling stores to provide affordable basic commodities to workers on Labor Day

Philippine Labor and Employment Secretary Arturo D. Brion said that as the President graces the main program of the nation's 105th Labor Day celebrations at the Folk Arts Theater in Manila, rolling stores shall make accessible to workers affordable basic goods and commodities like rice, cooking oil, meat and other goods, courtesy of the National Food Authority.
Brion said that the observance of Labor Day in the Philippines on May 1, 2007 is built around the theme, "Social Partnership for Productivity, Equity and Competitiveness," and slogan, "Galing, Husay at Talino, Handog ng Manggagawang Pilipino!"
He said that the NFA's initiative affirms the government's commitment to provide greater access to affordable basic commodities, and essential services, to support Filipino workers and their families in their quest for productivity and competitiveness.
Brion indicated that from Labor Day and throughout the month of May, scheduled stops of the "Tindahan ni Gloria" have been planned in government offices and other areas to reach out to more workers. The Labor Chief added that starting on Labor Day, the government shall push for the establishment of more than 30 ditional Barangay Food Terminals nationwide to increase people's access to basic goods.
He acknowledged with gratitude the effort of the NFA, the government's social partners and other sectors in providing access to affordable basic goods and commodities.
