Defending champion Stamm wins Velux 5 Oceans title

Bernard Stamm won the Velux 5 Oceans solo around-the-world yacht race Monday for the second straight time.
The Swiss sailor finished the 30,000-mile (48,300-kilometer) race in a total of 103 days, 22 hours, 10 minutes, after departing from Bilbao on Oct. 22.
Stamm won all three legs of the race. He arrived first in the port of Bilbao at 5:13 p.m. local time (1513 GMT) in his self-built Open 60 "Cheminees Poujoulat," after nearly 12 days of racing from Norfolk, Virginia.
Japan's Kojiro Shiraishi, sailing "Spirit of Yukoh," came second in the third leg, arriving 43 minutes after Stamm. Shiraishi also came second overall, 14 days, 3 hours, 32 minutes behind.
Among unfinished competitors, Robin Knox-Johnston of England _ the first man to circumnavigate the world alone _ was in third place. Graham Dalton and Unai Basurko were further behind.
The first two legs were from Bilbao to Freemantle, Australia, and on to Norfolk.
The race has been staged every four years since 1982.
