Tunick hopes to make mass nude photo shoot in Mexico City's main plaza his biggest

Photographer Spencer Tunick, famous for photographing crowds of nude people around the world, intends to do his next shoot in the historic main plaza of Mexico City.
Tunick said the planned May 6 photo event in the Zocalo _ often referred to as the second-largest plaza in the Western world, after Moscow's Red Square _ could be the biggest shoot of his life.
"This could be my largest work ever," Tunick told a news conference on Sunday, noting that he had previously worked with 7,000 volunteer models in Barcelona, Spain, in 2003.
"We're really hoping that all eyes will be on Mexico City on May 6 because this could be ... bigger than Barcelona," he said, adding he has secured all the necessary permits.
The Zocalo measures about 21,000 square meters (25,000 square yards) _ the equivalent of about five football fields placed side-by-side.
The square, in one form or another, has been at the heart of the city since it was founded by the Aztecs in 1325. When the Spanish conquered the city in 1521, they demolished Aztec temples and palaces around the plaza and gave it much of its present form.
Previously Tunick said he wanted to do the shoot at the pre-Aztec ruins of Teotihuacan, north of the capital, but was considering other locations.
Tunick has spent three years planning the project, and has 3,700 participants registered so far, but said more are signing up.
"For some mysterious reason, a wonderful reason, the Mexican citizens are singing up in large numbers," he said.
