Porto loses ground in Portuguese title race, Sporting closes in

Sporting snared a 1-1 draw at Benfica and closed the gap on leader FC Porto to three points with three rounds to go in the Portuguese league on Sunday.
Defending champion Porto lost 2-1 to crosstown rival Boavista on Saturday.
Second-placed Sporting went ahead early in the Lisbon derby when Liedson headed in at the back post after two minutes.
Fabrizio Miccoli equalized in the 24th with a low drive from the edge of the area.
Sporting has 59 points, one more than third-placed Benfica.
Porto, which has led the title race since the second week of the season, produced one of its worst performances of the year at Boavista.
Central defender Ricardo Silva put the home team ahead from a corner after 15 minutes and Ze Manuel doubled the lead five minutes after the interval.
Porto found its rhythm only in the last 20 minutes. Brazilian striker Anderson was brought down by Boavista goalkeeper Peter Jehle, who was shown his second yellow card and sent off. Lucho Gonzalez netted his ninth goal of the season from the penalty spot in the 73rd.
