PSV wins Dutch league title

PSV Eindhoven won its 20th Dutch league title by a single goal after beating Vitesse Arnhem 5-1 on Sunday.
PSV and Ajax finished with 75 points. PSV clinched with a +50 goal difference, one ahead of Ajax.
AZ, which lost to 3-2 to Excelsior Rotterdam for the first time since 1985, took third with 72 points.
PSV coach Ronald Koeman is only the second coach to win the Dutch league with two different clubs after leading Ajax to the title in 2002 and '04.
Leo Beenhakker won titles with Ajax in 1980 and 1990, and Feyenoord in 1999.
PSV scored two goals in the first 10 minutes. Alex headed in a corner from Jefferson Farfan in the eighth minute, and Farfan doubled the lead two minutes later with his 20th goal of the season. Theo Janssen pulled one back for Vitesse in the 13th.
Ibrahim Afellay added another for PSV in the 53rd and Farfan scored his second in the 65th _ before captain Philip Cocu scored the title-deciding goal in the 77th.
"This is amazing," Cocu said. "Some people had already written us off, but we have fought right until the last minute to win."
Ajax, seeking to win its 30th league title, had goals from Urbi Emanuelson and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
AZ led the league on goal difference before the final round, but had a disastrous start at Excelsior when goalkeeper Boy Waterman was dismissed in the 21st for a foul in the penalty area on Andwele Slory. Luigi Bruins converted the penalty.
Simon Cziommer curled in a free kick in the 24th to equalize for AZ before Henrico Drost score for Excelsior. Substitute Danny Koevermans leveled for AZ in the 71st, but Johan Voskamp netted the winner in the 90th.
Alves scored four goals, including a 75th-minute penalty, as Heerenveen beat Feyenoord 5-1. Alves scored 34 goals this season to take the top scorer's title.
PSV has gained automatic entry into next season's champions league. Ajax, AZ, Twente and Heerenveen will meet in a playoff series to decide the Netherlands' second and last spot.
