Pediatric oncologist receives award for lifetime contribution

Lin Kuo-hsin, founder of the Children's Cancer Foundation of Taiwan, was awarded yesterday for his lifetime contributions to medical care for children suffering from cancer.
Lin was one of eight pediatrician and pediatric nurse specialists presented with "Taiwan Medical Contribution Awards" by the non-profit Juei Hsin Children's Medical Care Foundation and the Taiwan Pediatric Association.
Doing his duty
Lin, a retired pediatric oncologist from the prestigious National Taiwan University Hospital, is also the founder of the Taiwan Thalassemia Association. Currently serving as chairman of the Taipei-based Chinese Blood Services Foundation, Lin is recognized as the man who built a medical care environment in Taiwan for young cancer patients to enjoy proper medical treatment, according to the award organizers.
Two decades ago, only a third of young cancer patients could get proper medical care in Taiwan, but now the number has increased to more than 80 percent, the organizers said, attributing this achievement to Lin.
Commenting on the award, Lin said he only did his duty.
