Thomson says 1st-quarter sales little changed on currency effects

Thomson, a French provider of post-production equipment to the film industry, said Thursday that its first-quarter sales were little changed as unfavorable exchange rates ate into its income.
Sales in the three months through March totaled euro1.25 billion (euro1.73 billion), compared with euro1.27 billion in the same period a year earlier, the company said in a statement.
"Overall first-quarter revenues were in line with our expectations, reflecting the seasonal bias towards the second half of the year," Thomson said. "We expect no major change to overall trends in the second quarter."
Thomson, like many other French companies, reports sales figures ahead of its earnings.
Its shares fell 1 percent to euro14.31 (euro19.52) in Paris.
