Tendulkar, Ganguly 'rested' from 1-day squad for Bangladesh tour

Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly were "rested" from the Indian one-day squad to tour Bangladesh, the Indian cricket board announced Friday.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India, or the BCCI, denied that Tendulkar and Ganguly, two of India's most experienced players, had been dropped, saying that they were being rested. They were included in the squad for the two tests.
"We are giving Sachin and Sourav a break," Dilip Vengsarkar, chairman of India's selection committee told reporters in Mumbai. "They are being rested. We are retaining Rahul (Dravid) as captain."
The shake-up in India cricket comes after their dismal performance at the ongoing World Cup in the Caribbean, where India were ousted in the group stages after losses to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Vengsarkar said the senior players were given some time off in the three one-day internationals against Bangladesh since India had a packed one-day and test schedule in the year ahead.
Batsman Virendra Sehwag, currently in bad form, was retained in the one-day squad but not in the test side.
Off-spinner Harbajan Singh, bowlers Irfan Pathan and Ajit Agarkar were dropped from both the one-day and test teams, said board secretary Niranjan Shah.
"Yes they have been dropped. There will be more one-days later and then they could be considered," he said.
The Indian team will leave for Bangladesh on May 7 for the monthlong series that starts on May 10.
