TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on Tuesday (Oct. 19) reported one new local COVID-19 case.
Deputy CECC chief Chen Tsung-yen (陳宗彥) that afternoon announced five imported COVID cases and one local infection. The CECC did not announce any deaths, leaving the COVID death toll at 846.
The sole local infection reported on Tuesday, case No. 16,451, is a man in his 60s. He developed a fever and other symptoms on Oct. 16 and sought medical treatment on Oct. 17, when he was tested for the virus.
He tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday and was admitted to a hospital for treatment. He was found to have a Ct value of 33.1 and was positive for both IgG and IgM antibodies.
The health department has listed 12 contacts in his case. Of these, four have been placed in isolation, three have started self-health management, and five have commenced self-health monitoring.
According to Chen, the five imported cases include four males and one female between the ages of 10 and 60. Between Oct. 5-17, they entered Taiwan from the U.S. (case Nos. 16,448 and 16,452), the UAE (case No. 16,449), the Philippines (case No. 16,450), and Malaysia (case No. 16,453).
COVID case statistics
Since the outbreak began, Taiwan has carried out 3,760,750 COVID tests, with 3,743,687 coming back negative. Out of the 16,343 confirmed cases, 1,704 were imported, 14,585 were local, 36 came from the Navy's "Goodwill Fleet," three were from a cargo pilot cluster, and one was unresolved.
A total of 110 people have been removed as confirmed cases, while 14 cases are still under investigation. Up until now, 846 individuals have succumbed to the disease.
Of the 834 deaths from local infections, 412 were in New Taipei; 319 in Taipei; 29 in Keelung; 27 in Taoyuan; 15 in Changhua County; 13 in Hsinchu County; five in Taichung; three in Miaoli County; two each in Yilan and Hualien counties; and one each in Hsinchu City, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, and Taitung County. The 12 other deaths were imported cases.
