Italian winter sports federation elects new president

Giovanni Morzenti was elected president of the financially troubled Italian winter sports federation on Saturday.
The 56-year-old Morzenti was the only candidate. His former jobs include managerial positions with Fiat, several banks and the Limone Piemonte ski resort.
The federation, which oversees 13 sports disciplines, is facing a deficit of euro5 million.
Italian gymnastics federation president Riccardo Agabio had temporary control of the winter federation in January after Gaetano Coppi resigned.
Coppi, who had led the federation since 2000, resigned in a surprise on Dec. 13, just as the ski season got under way. Nine days later, he agreed to return on a temporary basis, but then withdrew again.
