College Television Awards honor comedy, news, drama shows from U.S. students

An animated tale of two pinata toys trying to flee a birthday party and a drama about a youngster's life in an African slum were among the winners of the 28th annual College Television Awards.
More than 400 entries were submitted by 176 U.S. colleges and universities to be judged by members of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
At Saturday's ceremony, reality TV mogul Mark Burnett ("Survivor," "The Apprentice") received the first Innovation in Television Award, honoring his "significant and groundbreaking impact on the television landscape," the College Television Awards said in a release.
The students' work will be featured on the Sundance Channel, mtvU and on demand at mtvU.com and Plum TV.
