Super 14: Force finally win at home, beating Hurricanes 18-17

Cameron Shepherd scored a try in the final minute then kicked the clinching conversion to give the Western Force their first Super 14 rugby win at home in eight tries, beating the Wellington Hurricanes 18-17 Friday.
Shepherd kicked the conversion from the sideline to give the Force its third win of the season in six attempts. along with a draw. The Force's only success at home last year _ its first in the tournament _ came in a 23-23 draw with New Zealand side Canterbury, and the Perth team lost two one-point decisions this season at home.
The win looked unlikely with just three minutes left when Jimmy Gopperth's disputed try gave the Hurricanes a 17-11 lead after the Force led 11-10 for much of the last quarter of the game.
Video replays indicated Gopperth may have lost possession of the ball before touching down, bringing a chorus of boos from the Subiaco Oval crowd anxious for a first home win for the Force.
The Force led 7-5 at halftime on fullback Drew Mitchell's fourth-minute try, while Tana Umaga scored for Wellington, which is 3-3 on the season.
"We were under a lot of pressure at the end," said Force and former All Blacks coach John Mitchell. "I was happy with the way our guys hung on."
Scores:
Western Force 18 (Drew Mitchell, Cameron Shepherd tries; Shepherd conversion, 2 penalties), Wellington 17 (Tana Umaga, Jimmy Gopperth tries; Gopperth conversion, Blair Stewart conversion, penalty)
