South Korean prime minister to resign in early March

South Korean Prime Minister Han Myung-sook will resign early next month, an aide said Friday amid media reports that she may run for president.
Han expressed her intention to quit at a meeting with President Roh Moo-hyun late Thursday and the president agreed, an aide to Han said on condition of anonymity, citing protocol.
Han will step down after the current session of the National Assembly closes on March 6, the aide said. After resigning, she plans to focus on her job as a legislator, he said.
The official declined to comment on media speculation that Han may be thinking of running for the nation's top job. The presidential election is set for December.
Han is the first woman to hold the government's No. 2 position, although the job is largely ceremonial in a country where power is heavily concentrated around the president.
