Opto-electronics industry to tap market in Japan

The Taiwan External Trade Development Council will collaborate with Taiwanese opto-electronics businesses to hold a forum on opto-electronics industry in Osaka, Japan April 16-19 with the aim of helping Taiwanese enterprises explore foreign markets, a TAITRA official explained yesterday.
Riding high on last year's success, the TAITRA, in conjunction with nine firms, is planning to head for Japan to organize the forum entitled "2007 Taiwan Opto-electronics Day", which will include a presentation and several one-to-one trade consultation meetings, the official added.
The marketing delegation, to be headed by Wang Han-lung, executive director of the Koyork Co., and Shih Hao-chun, deputy general manager of the Sino Silicon Technology Inc., will pay visits to Sharp and Kyocera Corps. in an attempt to forge strategic alliances between enterprises from the two countries, according to the official.
The participating companies will include Sino Silicon Technology Inc., Powercom Co., Mosel Vitelic Inc., NewcoreTek Co., Ablerex Electronics Co., Koyork Co., LightStar Technologies, Chai Tun Silk-Screen Printing Co., and High Light Tech. International Corp.
Japan is the largest supplier of opto-electronics products in the world, accounting for 41.9 percent of global output, the official said, adding that at present it is the second largest market for opto-electronics products, next only to Germany, and the market is expected to increase annually by 12.3 percent from 2005 to 2025.
The official said that the TAITRA hopes the event will help Taiwan's opto-electronics enterprises keep abreast of the latest trends of Japanese opti-electronics industry and seize upon more commercial opportunities in that country.
