TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The organizer of the 2020 Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival, New Taipei City's Tourism and Travel Department (TTD), on Monday (Jan. 13) announced shuttle bus services and traffic control measures for the event, which will take place at Pingxi Junior High School on Feb. 1 and at Shihfen Sky Lantern Square on Feb. 8.
According to the TTD, traffic control will take effect from 9 a.m. to midnight on both days, barring all vehicles from the Pingxi area except shuttle buses, official vehicles, and those of local residents.
On Feb. 1, three shuttle bus lines to the venue will operate from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.: the Taipei Zoo line, which starts at Taipei Zoo (木柵動物園) and makes a stopover at National Highway 5's Shiding Interchange (石碇交流道); the Shiding line, which starts at the Shiding Interchange; and the Ruifang line, which starts at TRA Ruifang Station (瑞芳車站).
On Feb. 8, five departing shuttle buses will be operated, including the same three lines in service on Feb. 1 plus the Keelung and Shuangxi lines.
The Keelung line starts at TRA Keelung Station and stops off at Dongxing Temple (東興宮) in Nuannuan District. All departing lines will operate from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Feb. 8 except the Shuangxi line. The Shuangxi line, which starts at TRA Shauangxi Station, will run from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
For the return trip, the last shuttle bus will leave the venue at 11 p.m. for all lines except the Shuangxi line, which departs at 8:30 p.m.
The fare for any shuttle bus leaving from outside Pingxi is NT$30 except for the Taipei Zoo line, which is NT$50. The bus fare from within Pingxi is NT$15. The Shuangxi line service to and from the venue is free of charge. All return trips on every line are also free.
The TTD said that the three sky lantern-inspired installation art pieces are set up around Pingxi Train Station, Pingxi Old Street, and the square in front of the Pingxi activity center for visitors to take photos with.
