Italian skier Simoncelli injured

Italian skier Davide Simoncelli fell during training Monday and damaged a ligament in his right knee.
The injury came on the same day Italy announced its team for the World Championships. Simoncelli is slated to ski the giant slalom at the worlds in Are, Sweden, on Feb. 14.
The fall came during a training session in Val di Fassa. The Italian team said Simoncelli would have an MRI on Tuesday.
Simoncelli has won two World Cup giant slaloms in his career and finished twice three times.
The other skiers selected for Italy's team were Max Blardone, Peter Fill, Werner Heel, Christoph Innerhofer, Manfred Moelgg, Giorgio Rocca, Alberto Schieppati, Patrick Staudacher and Kurt Sulzenbacher. More athletes could be added following Tuesday's slalom in Schladming, Austria, the final race before the worlds.
The 11 women on Italy's team are: Annalisa Ceresa, Chiara Costazza, Nadia Fanchini, Elena Fanchini, Nicole Gius, Denise Karbon, Daniela Merighetti, Manuela Moelgg, Karen Putzer, Lucia Recchia and Johanna Schnarf.
