Germany's Wincor-Nixdorf says 1st-quarter profit rose 44 percent

Cash machine maker Wincor-Nixdorf AG said Monday that its first-quarter profit rose 44 percent as the company garnered more new orders.
Net income for the first three months of the fiscal year rose to euro26 million (US$33.6 million) from euro18 million in the same period a year earlier, the company said in a statement. Sales rose 13 percent to euro549 million (US$709.4 million).
"This positive start clearly shows that Wincor-Nixdorf is on the right track. I believe that our success story will continue in the current fiscal year," said Chief Financial Officer Eckard Heidloff, who succeeds Karl-Heinz Stiller as chief executive on conclusion of Monday's annual general meeting.
The shares rose 0.8 percent to euro118.40 (euro153.00) in Frankfurt.
