Pearce accepts role of England under-21 coach

Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce will be England's under-21 coach if his club agrees to let him do two jobs at the same time.
"I have been offered the job and I have accepted it," Pearce said Sunday. "Now, it is down to the club and the FA to both be comfortable with the situation. Hopefully they can finalize one or two things but I don't see any reason why that should not be the case."
Peter Taylor stepped down last week after his second spell as under-21 coach, deciding to concentrate on the role of manager of League Championship team Crystal Palace.
That left the job open and Pearce, who made 78 appearances for England, emerged as the leading candidate. He hopes to be in charge when England hosts Spain at Derby County's Pride Park on Feb. 6.
