Australia beats Netherlands 5-4 in opening test match

Jamie Dwyer's 50th-minute goal gave Australia a 5-4 win Sunday over the Netherlands in the first of four men's field hockey test matches.
Robert van der Horst's second of two goals in the 44th minute gave the Dutch side a brief lead, but the visitors failed to convert two late penalty corners at the National Hockey Centre.
Netherlands coach Roeland Oltmans said his side had performed well considering the players had only arrived in Australia on Saturday.
"The result is not the thing we are looking for at the moment," Oltmans said. "The most important thing is to look at what we can do."
The teams meet again Monday at Canberra before playing the last two tests in Brisbane.
