Asafa Powell's first race of year in Jamaica this weekend

World 100-meter record-holder Asafa Powell will run his first race of the year over 400 meters in front of home fans on Saturday in the Queen's/Grace Jackson Invitational meet.
Powell's coach Stephen Francis said he will use the meet as a strengthening exercise.
"That's the way we normally start the season," Francis said.
He added that Powell, who ran a record 12 sub-10-second 100s last year, will also run a second 400 also in Jamaica at either the Gibson Relays on Feb. 24 or the G.C. Foster Classic on March 10.
Also running the 400 on Saturday will be Michael Frater, the world championships 100 silver medalist.
The women's 400 will feature Sherone Simpson, the Commonwealth 200 champion, Brigitte Foster-Hylton, the world championships 100 hurdles bronze medalist, and Geraldine Pillay of South Africa, the Commonwealth 100 silver medalist.
