Indonesian shares drop for 5th consecutive session hurt by regional fall, weak rupiah

Indonesian shares fell for the fifth consecutive session Friday, hurt by declines across Asia markets and a weaker rupiah.
The Jakarta Stock Exchange Composite index closed 14.750 points or 0.8 percent at 1,759.206 in a moderate trade where losers trounced gainers 89 to 43, with 58 stocks were unchanged.
Overall sentiment remained weak but late bargain hunting in mining blue chips lifted the main index from its intraday low of 1,736.758, traders said.
Heavyweight Telkom lost 2.1 percent at 9,550 rupiah while Bank Mandiri slipped 1.9 percent to 2,650 rupiah, and Bank Rakyat fell 1.9 percent to 5,250, on profit taking after recent rally.
The local currency rupiah also ended down as the U.S. dollar closed at 9,115 rupiah, slightly up from Thursday's rate of 9,100 rupiah amid outflows from local stock market.
