LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) — The 30th annual Lake Placid Summit Lacrosse Classic is at hand.
Summit Lacrosse Ventures says over 250 male and female teams will be competing this week at the North Elba athletic fields, which will become the epicenter of the sport for one week.
An Olympic seminar on Friday in Lake Placid will discuss the hopeful return of lacrosse to the Olympic program by 2028 in Los Angeles. The seminar will be attended by World Lacrosse and US Lacrosse.
Three pillars of the classic also will be honored. Roy Simmons, Jr., the late Paul Rose, a former player, and organizer Phil Kessler will be added to the Legends of Lake Placid Lax community. Simmons spent 28 years as head coach at Syracuse and led the Orange to six NCAA championships.
