City manager Pearce considers under-21 job

Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce has had discussions with the Football Association about becoming England under-21 coach.
Pearce said Friday that he had a brief conversation with the FA about succeeding Peter Taylor, who quit Thursday.
The former England defender did said he not know when a decision would be reached, although Sky TV reported that an announcement would be made later Friday.
"At this stage, this is as far as it goes," Pearce said.
Pearce said it would be possible to combine his duties at City with the part-time position for England, even though Taylor resigned to concentrate on coaching Crystal Palace.
The 54-year-old Taylor had been with the team since July 2004, his second spell in charge after 23 games from August 1996 to June 1999.
Sammy Lee will lead the under-21 team for a Feb. 6 friendly against Spain. If hired, Pearce would coach the youth side in this year's under-21 European Championship.
