South Africa sends Pakistan to bat

South African captain Graeme Smith won the toss Friday and sent Pakistan in to bat on the opening day of the third test at the Newlands Stadium.
The series is tied at 1-1 after Pakstan won the second test Monday by five wickets.
South Africa was forced to make a change with the absence of Herschelle Gibbs, who lost his appeal against a suspension for making derogatory comments about Pakistan fans.
Gibbs, who is banned for one test and two one-day internationals, was replaced by Boeta Dippenaar. Dippenaar was down to open the innings with Smith, with A.B. de Villiers dropping down the order to No. 6.
South Africa also rested Shaun Pollock and Andre Nel. Andrew Hall was brought in for Pollock, while Dale Steyn came in for Nel.
Pakistan brought in Shahid Nazir for the injured Shoaib Akhtar.
