Taiwan shares fall 1.3 percent on caution about technology sector

Taiwan shares fell slightly Friday as investors turned cautious on the technology sector.
The Weighted Price Index of the Taiwan Stock Exchange dropped 102.45 points, or 1. percent, to 7,821.32.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., the world's biggest contract chipmaker by revenue, said Thursday the first quarter would be challenging for the company because customers were still paring down their inventories.
TSMC fell 4.2 percent to 68 New Taiwan dollars Friday.
The technology subindex fell 1.5 percent.
The construction sector was the strongest performer, gaining 0.5 percent overall, as investors turned optimistic about the real estate market.
Pacific Construction soared by the maximum daily limit of 7 percent to NT$7.17, while BES Engineering advanced 4.2 percent at NT$7.2.
