Suspect Nearly Chomps Off Cop's Finger

A suspect whose vehicle was being searched nearly bit off a police officer's finger after swallowing a bag of alleged drugs. Jessie Acker was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and possession of a controlled substance.
Abe Long, a Hancock County Sherrif's Department narcotics agent, was canvassing Jessie Acker's car for drugs when Acker swallowed a bag of drugs, possibly cocaine and pills, officials said.
Fellow officer Tim Airhart, who was standing alongside Acker, demanded he spit the bag out. When he failed to comply, police used chemical spray on Acker, hoping it would force a gagging reflex and he would regurgitate the small bag.
Long put his hand near Acker's mouth waiting to catch "whatever it was he was about to spit out," but instead, Long heard a bloodcurdling "crunch."
For three or four seconds Acker allegedly gnawed on the tip of Long's index finger, tearing and smashing it, even through a leather glove. The mangled finger was molded back together and bandaged at Hancock Medical Center.
En route to jail, Acker vomited in the police car, officials said. Agents sifted through the vomit and allegedly found several blue pills.
