THSRC announces date for New Year ticket sales

The Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. said yesterday it will begin the presale of tickets for the Lunar New Year holiday on February 1, but the THSRC has yet to decide whether the Taipei-Banciao section will join the operation.
"The THSRC Thursday [yesterday] has applied for a second inspection for the Taipei-Banciao section, and it is estimated the transportation ministry will issue the operation permit for THSRC on January 29," said Chief Executive Officer of the THSRC Ou Chin-der (歐晉德).
Ou noted the platform space in Taipei high speed rail station is smaller, which means passengers taking the high speed rail and Taiwan Railway Administration trains may need one week or two to get used to the routes of the two rail systems, or passengers may get confused with the two systems.
The THSRC said passengers can buy presale round trip tickets for days from February 15 until March 1 at one time, starting from February 1. Customers can purchase tickets at the eight high speed rail stations, but not by telephone or via the Internet.
Meanwhile, a southbound bullet train was delayed for 21 minutes Wednesday night. The Bureau of High Speed Rail Director-General Pang Chia-hua (龐家樺) said yesterday the bureau was not informed about the delay until 1 a.m. yesterday morning.
According to the bureau, the train was forced to stop near the Chiayi high speed rail station when the operation center in Taoyuan found the turnout was not situated in the right place. The train then moved backward into another train track to continue the journey, the bureau said.
Pang said the THSRC at first contributed the cause of the incidence to the turnout problem, but later changed their response and said it was the final inspector that was to blame.
The bureau has asked the THSRC to submit a report on the cause of the delay, the maintenance and malfunction records of turnouts.
