Goosen takes one-stroke lead at Qatar Masters

Retief Goosen took a one-stroke lead at the Qatar Masters after shooting a 7-under 65 Thursday in the first round.
Miguel Angel Jimenez and Nick O'Hearn were tied for second at the Doha Golf Club.
"I think it was a fantastic 65 in difficult conditions," Goosen said. "But it is great to start with such a good score. Hopefully I can keep up the good work in the other three rounds."
Goosen had eight birdies _ four on the front nine and four on the back _ and a bogey on the 235-yard third hole.
"I felt I got onto the greens really well from the rough. My driving was not great, but good enough for me to get a satisfying score. I putted well too, which helped," the two-time U.S. Open champion said.
Jimenez, who finished second last week at the Abu Dhabi Championship, had four birdies and an eagle.
"It is an excellent start for me. It feels like I have continued from last week," Jimenez said. "I managed to hit every club in the bag besides using a new putter."
Shiv Kapur was fourth after a 5-under 67 on the 7,355-yard course. Defending champion Henrik Stenson, Edward Michaels, Richard Green and Nick Dougherty were tied for the fifth a further stroke behind, and Ernie Els was tied with Paul Lawrie and eight others at 69.
Kapur overcame two bogeys on the back nine with seven birdies.
"I told my caddie Neeraj that I was rolling the ball really well," Kapur said. "I hit a lot of shots close and made a few good putts. Anytime I hit my putts well, the game seems easy."
Paul Casey, who won in Abu Dhabi last week, finished with three straight birdies and a 72 after four bogeys in the first 12 holes.
