Former VW manager fined, given suspended sentence for role in corruption scandal

Volkswagen AG's former personnel chief was handed a two-year suspended prison sentence on Thursday and fined euro576,000 (about US$749,000) for his role in a corruption scandal at the German automaker.
Judge Gerstin Dreyer's ruling was widely expected, as part of an agreement made by Peter Hartz, 65, and his attorney ahead of the trial in exchange for his far-reaching confession to 35 counts of breach of trust.
