Taiwan shares fall on weak food sector

Taiwan shares fell moderately on Thursday as retail investors took profits in food stocks on a poor business outlook.
The Weighted Price Index of the Taiwan Stock Exchange fell 11.77 points, or 0.1 percent, to close at 7923.77.
The food sector fell 3.3 percent. Wei Chuan Foods fell 5.2 percent at NT$25.3, and Uni-President Enterprises was down 3.1 percent at NT$31.05.
But Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, the world's largest contract chip maker, was 0.6 percent highter at NT$70.90 ahead of the disclosure of its fourth-quarter earnings.
