Air Liquide's fourth-quarter revenues drop 1 percent

French industrial and medical gases producer Air Liquide SA on Thursday reported a 1 percent slide in revenue for the fourth quarter of 2006, on a stronger euro and a decline in natural gas prices in the United States.
The world's largest supplier of oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen to most industries said in a statement that revenue slid to euro2.8 billion (US$3.6 billion) from euro2.83 billion in the fourth quarter of 2005.
Full-year revenue totaled euro10.95 billion (US$14.24 billion), up from euro10.44 billion in 2005, the company said.
A stronger euro and a sharp decline in natural gas prices in the United States had an overall negative impact of euro151 million (US$196 million) in the fourth quarter of 2006, the company said.
Stripping out these effects, revenue grew 4.4 percent on a like-for-like basis in the fourth quarter, fueled by solid growth in Asia, the company said. Like many French companies, Air Liquide releases its revenue and profit figures separately.
Air Liquide said it is keeping its full-year target of growth in comparable net profit close to that of 2005, and said that it sees an acceleration of development in 2007.
