Asia, Americas help lift Pernod Ricard first-half revenue 7.3 percent

French drinks company Pernod Ricard SA on Thursday reported a 7.3 percent rise in first-half revenue powered by strong growth in Asia and the Americas, increasing its full-year revenue objectives.
Pernod, maker of Ballantine's whiskey, Martell cognac and Stolichnaya vodka, posted sales of euro3.5 billion (US$4.5 billion) for the July-December period, up from euro3.27 billion a year earlier.
This was above the euro3.44 billion (US$4.41 billion) predicted by analysts in a Dow Jones Newswires poll. Pernod Ricard's 2006-2007 fiscal year ends on May 31.
In a statement, Pernod Ricard highlighted excellent performances in Asia and in the Americas as well as stronger growth in Europe and France.
Chief Executive Patrick Ricard said the company now expects full-year sales to increase 6 percent _ excluding any impact from new businesses acquired during the course of the year.
Pernod Ricard reiterated its target of double-digit earnings growth for the first half. Wednesday, Pernod Ricard shares closed at euro148.90 (US$190.80).
