Corinthians routs Juventus 4-1 in Sao Paulo state championship

Striker Christian scored three goals and Bolivian forward Juan Carlos Arce netted another as Corinthians defeated Juventus 4-1 to win its third in a row in the Sao Paulo state championship on Wednesday.
In the Rio de Janeiro state championship, Vasco and Fluminense won their opening matches, while Botafogo was held to a draw.
Christian, acquired from Juventude at the beginning of the season, put Corinthians ahead at Pacaembu stadium with a penalty kick in the 17th minute, then added to the lead with a low left-footer in the 41st, and a shot from close range in the 67th. The striker is the tournament's leading scorer with four goals.
Arce, making his debut for Corinthians, came off the bench to score from inside the six-meter line in the 90th after a left-flank cross from midfielder Magrao.
Midfielder Sergio Lobo netted Juventus' lone goal with a penalty kick in the 86th.
The result extended Corinthians' winning streak to three matches in three rounds.
Corinthians is the winningest state champion with 25 titles, the last in 2003.
Brazilian champion Sao Paulo, seeking its first state title since 2005, drew Paulista 2-2 at Jayme Cintra stadium in Jundiai after allowing an equalizer four minutes into injury time.
Also on Wednesday, Noroeste _ based in the interior city of Bauru _ trashed Rio Claro 4-0 to win its third consecutive match.
Defending champion Santos, another three-time winner, plays at Bragantino on Thursday, while Palmeiras hosts Santo Andre at Palestra Italia stadium in Sao Paulo.
In Rio de Janeiro, Vasco debuted in the state championship with a 2-0 win over Nova Iguacu at Sao Januario stadium. Strikers Abedi and Leandro Amaral netted a goal each, and Argentine midfielder Dario Conca made his first appearance.
Conca, a standout in the 2005 Copa Sudamericana for Chile's Universidad Catolica, was acquired by Vasco in December.
Fluminense won its opener against Friburguense 1-0 at Maracana stadium with a goal by striker Alex Dias, a former Vasco player signed from Sao Paulo in the offseason.
Botafogo was held to 2-2 against Madureira at Maracana.
Flamengo will host Cabofriense on Thursday.
