TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taipei was chosen as the best leisure destination in Asia by Global Traveler for the second consecutive year, reports said Friday (May 17).

A representative of the government’s Tourism Bureau in Los Angeles received the award on Thursday, the Central News Agency reported.

According the American magazine’s rankings, Taipei beat the South Korean capital of Seoul into second place. Singapore, Tokyo and the Thai island of Phuket filled up the rest of the top-five, Global Traveler said. Hong Kong featured at No.6, followed by Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Osaka and Indonesia’s island of Bali.

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport was the fourth best airport in the world for transit on a list headed by Kloten, the airport of the Swiss city of Zurich.

Global Traveler picked recipients of its best leisure destination awards in each continent, with the city of Nashville, Tennessee, winning the accolade for North America, the Colombian capital of Bogota for Latin America, the Czech capital of Prague for Europe, and the country of Botswana for Africa, CNA reported.

Another U.S. magazine, TravelAge West, has nominated Taiwan as one of its “Destinations with the Highest Client Satisfaction in the Asia/Pacific,” vying with Australia, Fiji, Japan and Thailand for the title to be announced on June 13, according to the Tourism Bureau.
