TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- The Central Weather Bureau has issued a heavy rain advisory for 14 counties and cities in Taiwan this evening (May 15).
A convective cloud system developed rapidly this afternoon and is likely to bring sudden downpours to much of Taiwan. There is a possibility of thunderstorms in Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, and mountainous areas of western Taiwan. Residents in these areas are advised to beware of lightning strikes and strong wind gusts.
The 14 counties and cities the CWB has issued a Heavy Rain Advisory for this evening include: New Taipei City, Yilan County, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Taichung City, Hualien County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Taitung County, and Pingtung County. A dense fog advisory has also been issued for Lienchiang County.
The CWB said that there will be more moisture in the air today and the weather will be more unstable. Mountainous areas of western and eastern Taiwan are likely to see local thunderstorms this evening.
The range of rainfall will be greater, and the probability of local downpours will be higher today, according to the CWB. Residents are advised to beware of sudden changes in the weather.
In terms of temperatures, the highs today will range between 30 and 33 degrees Celsius. In mountainous areas of southern Taiwan, the mercury could climb up to 36 degrees.
This evening and early tomorrow morning, the lows in Taiwan will range between 22 and 25 degrees.
